Benjamin Irons (CHt, CMI) is a sound practitioner, percussionist, author and meditation instructor, and an Artist-Collaborator for Dragonfly Percussion. He founded Zen with Ben as the culmination of his percussion and meditation training, bringing holistic wellness and relaxation to his community through sound healing, alongside meditation and hypnotic techniques. He facilitates sessions with antique Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, drums, chimes and ting-sha (Tibetan cymbals).
Music came early. Irons studied piano for five years before choosing percussion in beginner band, and he later attended Northern Arizona University to study percussion performance. After graduating he joined the private studio of Bill Wanser, retired principal percussionist of the Phoenix Symphony. That study led to an 11-year stretch and close to 450 appearances with the Phoenix Symphony. Since 2008 he has worked as a freelance orchestral percussionist and timpanist, performing across the United States, Europe and China. His engagements include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, Hawai'i Symphony, Colorado Symphony, New Mexico Philharmonic and Arizona Opera. He has also shared the stage with artists including Andrea Bocelli, Renee Fleming, Lang Lang, Bela Fleck and The Who (2019 tour).
His path into wellness began with his own performance anxiety, which he met during the audition process by exploring meditation and hypnotic techniques. He describes himself as deeply passionate about sound and vibration as a form of holistic, alternative healing for stress-related conditions.
As an Integrative Percussion Specialist, Irons has designed mallets, books, courses and workshops to help train the next generation of sound practitioners. The Benjamin Irons Signature Series of singing bowl wands and inviters, made with Dragonfly Percussion, was released in March 2022. He is the author of Sound Bath Conversations, a method book of nearly 2,000 sound bath exercises, and his online gong course draws on his Atma Buti® course. He served on the inaugural faculty of the Ohm Store Sound School in 2024 and as Lead Faculty for the Ohm Store Gong School for 2025–2026.
Irons is a member of the International Association of Meditation Instructors, the American Federation of Musicians (Denver Local 20-623) and the Author's Guild, and is an endorsed artist of Dragonfly Percussion and Sabian Cymbals.
Worth Knowing
Benjamin Irons (CHt, CMI) is a sound practitioner, orchestral percussionist, meditation instructor and author who founded Zen with Ben as the culmination of his percussion and meditation training. His background is unusual for the sound healing field: he studied piano for five years before switching to percussion, earned a degree in percussion performance at Northern Arizona University, and then spent eleven years and close to 450 appearances with the Phoenix Symphony. Since 2008 he has worked as a freelance orchestral percussionist and timpanist, with engagements that include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, Hawai'i Symphony, Colorado Symphony and Arizona Opera, and he has shared stages with Andrea Bocelli, Renee Fleming, Lang Lang, Bela Fleck and The Who on their 2019 tour. What draws serious followers is the crossover itself. He came to wellness through his own performance anxiety, which he worked through during audition preparation using meditation and hypnotic techniques, and he now brings a musician's precision to sessions built on antique Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, drums, chimes and ting-sha. He treats sound and vibration as a practical approach to stress-related conditions rather than a mood or an aesthetic.
