School Of Unified Healing — Kabupaten Gianyar, Indonesia
A nonprofit healing school in the heart of Bali's rice fields
The last stretch is made by scooter or on foot. From the main road, the School of Unified Healing Bali sits in the heart of rice fields, and the school asks newcomers to leave plenty of time to find it. It keeps a directions video for the purpose.
The school was founded by Kefah Bates and David Graham. Bates, who is also an author, arrived at the idea after decades as a healer and spiritual teacher, researching what limits people from developing their higher potential. Graham, the co-founder, continues to pioneer further schools. Their premise is devotional service: more than 30 teachers volunteer their time every week, so that healing is not gated by money.
The arithmetic is unusual. New students can try a free day pass, then enroll: IDR 200,000 for one week, IDR 300,000 for two months, or IDR 800,000 for six months. Enrollment is free for the Balinese community. After that there is no class tuition, and students may attend over 30 classes a week with no limit. The school says it reinvests all profit in its projects and future schools, and hopes that each school's cafe, shop and resources will eventually sustain it.
The weekly timetable is broad. There is a steady Hatha class built around alignment and pauses between postures, and a 75-minute breathwork journey that opens with conscious movement and a circle, then moves through guided breath into integration and sharing. There are also Reiki, a class on how food, wealth and sexual energy shape the mind, and Eya's sensual movement class. Paid immersions go deeper, among them a tantric workshop and a beginners' Contact Dance class that closes with an hour of prayers by the fire. Teachers bring Kundalini, Tantra, regression, jade egg practice and lunar ceremonies. Doors close ten minutes after a class begins, and sign-in opens fifteen minutes before.
